Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Kawasaki Frontale to sign highly-rated Japanese centre-back Kota Takai in a deal worth £5 million, marking a record fee received by a J-League club for a player, according to Sponichi Soccer.
Takai, born in 2004, is considered one of Japan’s brightest defensive prospects and has already featured at youth international level. The 6’4” centre-back has impressed with his composure, aerial ability, and ball-playing skills — traits that have attracted interest from several European clubs.
The move signals Spurs’ continued focus on young international talent and squad depth under their long-term planning strategy. Takai is expected to join up with the team after completing personal terms and a medical in the coming days.
