U.S. President Donald Trump has announced on his Truth social media platform that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is dead, describing his demise as “justice for the people of Iran” and urging citizens to seize the opportunity to liberate their country from hardline rule.
Trump condemned Khamenei as “one of the most evil figures in modern history” and claimed his death presents “the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to reclaim their nation.”
In his statement, Trump offered immunity to members of Iran’s security forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, if they lay down their arms. He also encouraged ordinary citizens to prepare to overthrow the government once the strikes conclude.
Israeli officials have cited “mounting evidence” suggesting Khamenei was killed in the bombardment, which reportedly struck his Tehran compound and other strategic leadership sites. Iranian authorities, however, have denied that either the Supreme Leader or President Masoud Pezeshkian has been killed.
The military escalation has provoked retaliatory missile strikes by Iran against Israeli and U.S. positions throughout the region, intensifying fears of a broader conflict. Casualties in Iran continue to rise, and the assault has drawn urgent international calls for restraint, even as Washington maintains that its operations are intended to neutralize Tehran’s military capabilities and curtail its influence across the Middle East.
The situation remains highly volatile, with world leaders and global institutions warning of unpredictable consequences as the region enters a perilous new phase of hostilities.
