UNIBEN Management Statement On Building Collapse

The management of the University of Benin has confirmed that no life was lost in the collapsed building incident earlier on Saturday at Ekosodin.

The institution said the three students trapped in the collapse have been rescued.

The spokesperson of the school, Benedicta Ehanire, in a statement, revealed that the rescued students were recovering in the hospital.

Ehanire also disclosed that a search for other students was ongoing.

The statement added that some of the trapped students have been rescued while the search for others is ongoing.

The statement read, “The management of the University of Benin says the three students of the Institution who were rescued from the collapsed storey building at Ekosodin neighbouring community are in stable condition in hospital.

“Reports indicate that the building, where the students resided, collapsed on Saturday morning following the downpour which began Friday afternoon, and that no life was lost.

“Rescue team comprising staff of the Security and Fire service departments, the Health Centre, students as well as the Police succeeded in rescuing the students who were first taken to the institution’s Health Centre before two of them were later taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
