Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen rescued a point for his team with a late header, securing a 1-1 draw against Benin Republic in Abidjan on Thursday.

Benin maintained their lead for most of the match despite numerous attempts from both sides. However, in the 81st minute, Osimhen leveled the score with a powerful header from a well-placed cross.
This draw came after Nigeria had already qualified for the 2025 AFCON, thanks to Libya’s earlier 1-0 victory over Rwanda.
With 11 points from five games, the Super Eagles remain at the top of their qualification group.
The goal also marked a significant milestone for Osimhen, who tied Segun Odegbami’s record of 23 goals, making him Nigeria’s joint second all-time leading scorer. Osimhen achieved this record in 37 matches, while Odegbami reached it in 46.
