There was a dramatic turn of events today at the Federal High Court in Lagos during the arraignment of social commentator Harrison Ofoegbu, popularly known as @IjeleSpeaks2, as the presiding judge questioned why he remains in detention despite reportedly fulfilling his bail conditions.
Ofoegbu, who has spent over a year in prison, is facing prosecution linked to allegations made by Evangelist Ebuka Obi and others. His prolonged detention has sparked widespread public concern, especially due to his deteriorating health conditions while in custody.
During today’s proceedings, the judge instructed Ofoegbu’s legal team to contact officials at Ikoyi Prison for an official explanation regarding his continued imprisonment.
“This court is directing you to reach out to the prison authorities and get clarification. If bail conditions have been met, there is no justification for further detention,” the judge stated.
Supporters of Ofoegbu were present outside the courtroom, calling for justice and an end to what they describe as a campaign of persecution. Many are demanding his immediate release and an investigation into the handling of his case.
