According to Guardian, President Bola Tinubu has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his impressive leadership, emphasizing that his efforts should secure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja come 2027.
Despite Wike still being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tinubu made it clear that the political stakes are high.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Wike led a high-profile delegation for a Sallah homage, Tinubu acknowledged the Minister’s transformational work in the FCT. The delegation, comprising top officials, religious leaders, and security heads, gathered to mark the end of Ramadan fasting and the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Tinubu commended Wike’s infrastructural achievements, calling him “Mr. Infrastructure.”
The President stressed that under Wike’s leadership, Abuja has witnessed major improvements, from road networks to healthcare and education facilities. He highlighted how these initiatives have positively impacted residents, making the FCT a more livable and efficient capital.
However, Tinubu also injected a political challenge into the conversation. Reflecting on a past discussion about removing financial bottlenecks, Tinubu quipped, “Would that give me any opportunity for my party (APC) to win the election in FCT? I know where you are coming from—your own party (PDP) or my party. If this thing goes too much in your own favor, you will lose your job.”
Wike, ever the tactician, responded, “Okay, we settle that, Oga.”
The President further applauded Wike’s swift action in reviving abandoned projects, upgrading healthcare centers, and improving educational facilities. The once-neglected Vice President’s residence has also been rejuvenated under his administration.CONTINUE READING
