Woman Reportedly Commits Suicide After She Was Left In Agony From Botched Wisdom Tooth Surgery Due To Alleged “Medical Malpractice”

A tragic incident involving a botched dental procedure has sparked outrage in China after a 34-year-old woman from Anqing reportedly died by suicide following a traumatic experience at the dentist.

According to Chinese media, the woman, known only by her surname Wu, visited Anqing Municipal Hospital on March 12 for what was supposed to be a straightforward wisdom tooth extraction.

However, the dentist mistakenly extracted her molar instead of the wisdom tooth.

Instead of admitting the error, the dentist allegedly forced the molar back into place and secured it using metal wire typically used to fix braces — all without providing Wu with any anesthesia.

The painful and reckless procedure left Wu in unbearable pain.

Her face was swollen, gums bled continuously, and she was unable to eat, only managing to drink water.

On Mar 17, Wu made what would be her last post on Douyin, writing: “If I stop updating this account, it means that I’m no longer around.”

Two days later (Mar 19), a man claiming to be Wu’s older brother posted a scathing statement on social media, accusing the dentist at the hospital of altering his sister’s medical records and attempting to “cover up the truth”.

He revealed that his sister had died by suicide on the same day she made her last post, by jumping from the 11th floor of the hospital.

According to him, Wu only discovered the dentist’s mistake after undergoing an X-ray at another hospital.

Frustrated by the lack of accountability and resolution, she repeatedly raised the issue with the hospital and other relevant departments but was met with indifference.

Wu’s family said that she has always been in good physical and mental health.

“Wu had repeatedly reported the issue to the hospital and authorities, but nothing was done. This broke her psychological defences, and she said she would use death to prove her innocence,” a relative said.

Hospital staff confirmed that the doctor involved has been suspended, and that both the health commission and police are investigating the matter.

The incident has drawn widespread attention, with many calling for accountability and justice for Wu.

Dental practitioners have weighed in, noting that while mistakenly extracting the wrong tooth is extremely rare, it can happen due to poor judgement.

They emphasised, however, that if such an error occurs, the tooth can be successfully replanted if done promptly and correctly.

“It’s almost impossible for a dentist to extract the wrong tooth. This was definitely a case of medical malpractice,” said one dental practitioner.
