Immediate past Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has stated that it would have been unfair for Eric Chelle to leave out Kelechi Iheanacho from his provisional 39-man squad for Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Iheanacho, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough from La Liga outfit Sevilla, was included in the provisional list but didn’t make the cut in the final 23-man list released on Tuesday, March 11.
Eguavoen believes it would have been harsh on the former Leicester City man if he wasn’t named in the provisional squad.
“It’s not fair on Kelechi Iheanacho if Eric Chelle makes a 39-man list and he isn’t involved.
“If it’s a 23- or 25-man list, that’s fine,” Eguavoen said via Monday Night Football.
Nigeria will take on Rwanda on Friday, March 21, before facing Zimbabwe in their next encounter four days later.
