Three Congolese nationals have been arrested in Cape Town, South Africa, after they were allegedly found working as unregistered and untrained security guards during a compliance operation conducted by the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).

The arrests followed a High Impact Inspection Forum operation targeting businesses in the hospitality and entertainment sector at the V&A Waterfront and Long Street.

According to authorities, the operation involved inspections at six venues identified by South Africa’s Department of Labour to assess compliance with private security regulations.

During the exercise, inspectors carried out six separate inspections and discovered three individuals allegedly working as security guards without the required registration and professional training.

The three suspects were subsequently arrested and were identified as nationals of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

PSIRA said the operation formed part of its ongoing enforcement efforts aimed at strengthening compliance within South Africa’s private security industry and ensuring that only duly registered and trained personnel provide security services.

Authorities have not released further details regarding possible charges or court proceedings involving the suspects.
