The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called out the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to implement the new national minimum wage without further delay.
The demand comes on the heels of the recent arrest of NLC President, Joe Ajaero, by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), which has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from labour leaders and activists.
In a statement posted on social media, the NLC declared, “Implement The New National Minimum Wage Now!!! We cannot be Silenced …. Release NLC President Now!”
It can be recalled that President Tinubu in late July, signed the new Minimum Wage Act into law.
This came nearly two weeks after agreeing with organized labour unions, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, on N70,000 as the new minimum wage.
However, the federal government has yet to implement the new national wage
