Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, made the statement in response to Arise TV host Rufai Oseni, who criticized him for a controversial remark made in a recent interview.
During an appearance on the Mic On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, Fayose stated that he has seven children from his two wives and five baby mamas. He further noted that he could choose to marry another wife if he ever felt unhappy or pressured in his marriage.
His comment has sparked widespread reactions on social and traditional media.
Weighing in on the discussion, Rufai Oseni cautioned men against treating women as commodities. He criticized Fayose’s statement, emphasizing that marriage is meant to be for better or worse.
Oseni said: “And for Mr. Ayo Fayose’s brother, we need to call a spade a spade—women are not commodities. You don’t just move to the next one when one stresses you. Marriage is for better or worse. Stop treating women like commodities; it is wrong.”
In response, Fayose posed three questions to Rufai Oseni and advised him to be more restrained in his criticisms if he had never been married or managed a home.
According to him, his two wives are accomplished professionals—one a diplomat and the other a barrister.
“Rufai Oseni, I was watching Arise News today, and I saw them play my video along with your comments. I have three questions for you: Have you ever been married? Do you have a wife? Do you have children? If you don’t have any of these, you have no right to comment on my video because you don’t understand how things work on the home front,” Fayose said.
He continued: “For your information, my two wives are billionaires. One is a diplomat, and the other is a lawyer—an Igbo woman, beautiful and world-class, worth about seven billion.”
“The other was a diplomat from the Netherlands to Nigeria, working as a visa officer. So I have quality wives, and there is no law that says I must stay in a marriage that isn’t working. They are not commodities—you can’t buy them, and they wouldn’t even date someone like you.”
“They prefer strong men like me, which is why they have been with me for almost 20 years. Rufai, you better stop coming for me. You may have experience in politics, but when it comes to running a home, you don’t. So stay in your studio and mind what you say.”
“These are billionaire wives, not ‘pay-as-you-go’ women. They are world-class, and that’s how I’ve been managing my home. We are all happy. If you’re not happy, go find your own wife and come back to share your experience.”
“I come in peace, Rufai. Don’t fire at me, or I’ll fire back.”
