“Its Shockingly Acting Without Respect For The Rule Of Law” Amnesty International Reacts To Invasion of SERAP Office by DSS

Amnesty International has raised serious concerns over what it describes as a troubling escalation of government repression following reports of an invasion of the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The human rights organization called out President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of using security forces to stifle dissent and undermine civil society organizations.

In a series of tweets a few minutes ago, Amnesty International Nigeria condemned the DSS for its actions, stating that SERAP, an organization known for its strong stance on accountability and anti-corruption efforts, should not be targeted for its work.

SERAP stands for accountability against corruption. It is bizarre that the DSS — which should focus on protecting Nigeria — are shockingly acting without respect for the rule of law, by consistently targeting civil society organizations and activists,” Amnesty International stated in one of its tweets.
