On New Year’s Day 2025, former Nigerian Presidential spokesperson and number one bestselling author Reno Omokri became the first Nigerian citizen to abseil down the Victoria Falls and climb back up with nothing other than ropes and a harness.
Mr. Omokri descended and ascended on his own, without any guide, wearing protective headgear while descending, but ditching it while climbing up.
The extreme adventure traveller is previously known for hiking up the Inca Trails in Machu Picchu, Peru, and the treacherous slopes of the Phnom Kulen mountain range of Cambodia. Mr. Omokri also hiked in Nepal and flew over Mount Everest in 2019.
Abseiling is a form of extreme mountain climbing, usually involving a decent. Mr. Omokri descended the 354 foot Batonka Gorge in 2 minutes and 39 seconds. He thereafter jogged back up to the top of the mountain.

The feat was captured on video. Asked by Zimbabwean and Zambian journalists why he did it, Mr. Omokri said, “Nigeria is the greatest county on Earth, and the Nigerian spirit within me compels me to at least attempt great things to show to the world through my lifestyle that the mainstream media is wrong about how the classify Nigeria.”Don’t Miss Out!
