Local sources confirmed that the assault took place on the night of February 20, during which the militants overran the facility.
In a subsequent report, JNIM claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that eight VDP fighters were killed in coordinated raids on three villages near the Togo border.
The group also claimed to have seized firearms and motorcycles from the security volunteers.
