‘We Put Norway On The Map’- Haaland Reacts To Norway’s World Cup Exit

Erling Haaland has declared Norway one of football’s emerging powers despite their painful World Cup quarter-final defeat to England.

Norway’s impressive campaign ended on Saturday after Jude Bellingham scored twice to hand England a 2-1 victory after extra time in Miami.

Haaland failed to score for the first time in 15 competitive international matches but finished the tournament with seven goals from five appearances.

The Manchester City striker said Norway’s run had transformed the country’s football image and inspired a new generation.

“How we put Norway on the map is maybe one thing that touches me the most,” Haaland said.

“We have shown that it is possible to play on the biggest stage in the world wearing a Norwegian shirt.”

Norway reached the quarter-finals in their first World Cup appearance in 28 years.

Their campaign included a stunning last-16 victory over five-time champions Brazil, with Haaland scoring twice to send the South Americans crashing out.

The 25-year-old said Norway must now build on the momentum and become regular contenders at major tournaments.

“I think this changes Norway. I think it changes me,” he said.

“We are building something, but it is about maintaining it because we have shown that it is possible to be one of the biggest football nations in the world.”

Haaland also praised former Borussia Dortmund teammate Bellingham after the Real Madrid midfielder ended Norway’s campaign.

“I think he is one of the best in the world,” Haaland said.

“England are lucky because everybody would want a Jude in their team.”

Haaland was substituted during extra time after struggling with the intense Miami heat and suffering a dead leg.

Norway coach Stale Solbakken said the striker had exhausted himself after carrying the team throughout the tournament.

“He scored seven goals in five games for us,” Solbakken said.

“A fantastic World Cup.”
