Another day, another reminder that the Middle East remains one of the few places where diplomacy is always invited but fighter jets somehow arrive first.
The United States has announced that it joined forces with Saudi Arabia to launch coordinated airstrikes against Iran backed targets in eastern Iraq after accusing Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of directing a fresh wave of drone attacks against American troops and Saudi energy facilities.
According to the United States Central Command, the operation took place on July 28 and targeted logistics hubs and weapons facilities allegedly used by armed groups aligned with Tehran.
Washington said the strikes were a direct response to more than 30 drone attacks carried out within just 72 hours.
The American military insisted none of those attacks successfully hit its personnel or installations, but it also made it clear that patience should not be mistaken for weakness.
It is remarkable how countries keep talking about reducing tensions while simultaneously finding new coordinates to bomb.
