Plateau: Troops Foil Reprisal Attack On Fulani Settlement, Arrest Two Suspects In Bassa Village

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have foiled an attempted reprisal attack on a Fulani settlement in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, arresting two suspects in connection with the incident.

Sources old Zagazola Makama that the troops of Sector 1, Operation Enduring Peace, deployed in Jengre, responded at about 11:23 a.m. on July 27 to a distress report of an attempted attack on a Fulani settlement in Pandauda Community.

The sources said preliminary findings revealed that the planned attack was a reprisal following the killing of a civilian, who was allegedly attacked by herders after refusing to allow them graze on his farmland.

Swift intervention by the troops prevented the situation from escalating into a wider communal conflict.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested in connection with the attempted attack and were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police, Jengre Division, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

Military sources said troops have maintained a security presence in the area to prevent any further breakdown of law and order, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.

The operation illustrates the commitment of Operation Enduring Peace to preventing reprisals, protecting vulnerable communities and maintaining peace in Plateau State amid recurring farmer-herder tensions.
