The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Dayo Israel, has called on Nigerian youths to take advantage of opportunities that can enable them to turn their ideas, energy and aspirations into meaningful contributions to national development.
Israel made the call as Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark International Youth Day 2026 on Wednesday.
This year’s International Youth Day theme is “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” highlighting the shared aspirations of young people around the world despite differences in their social, economic and geographical circumstances.
The United Nations and other international organisations have identified education, decent work, meaningful participation, dignity and a sustainable future among the common aspirations of young people.
APC Youth Leader Calls for Greater Youth Participation
Reflecting on the theme, Israel stressed the importance of creating platforms that give young Nigerians greater opportunities to participate in national development.
According to the APC youth leadership, young people should not only be viewed as beneficiaries of government programmes but should also have opportunities to contribute directly to political, economic and social development.
The party’s youth leadership also encouraged Nigerian youths and men to join the Mummy’s Men Movement, describing it as a platform for grassroots mobilisation and greater participation in democratic activities.
The movement is expected to involve activities such as door-to-door engagement, voter outreach and community mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mummy’s Men Movement Targets Grassroots Mobilisation
The APC youth leadership said the initiative is intended to provide young people with opportunities to participate directly in political mobilisation across communities.
The call comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with youth participation expected to remain an important part of voter mobilisation and political campaigns.
International Youth Day itself provides a wider opportunity to highlight the role of young people in shaping their communities and countries.
The 2026 theme places particular emphasis on the fact that young people may live in different circumstances while sharing aspirations for opportunity, participation, decent work, education and a better future.
Israel’s message therefore combines the international observance with a political call for greater youth participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The APC youth leadership urged young Nigerians to channel their energy and ideas into activities that can contribute to national development while participating actively in their communities.
