A Cameroonian man has reportedly been arrested in Lebanon after allegedly moving between mosques and churches while pretending to convert between Christianity and Islam in order to receive donations and other assistance.
According to reports circulating online, the man allegedly visited different mosques and presented himself as a Christian who had decided to embrace Islam.
He would reportedly receive financial assistance and other support from worshippers following the claimed conversion.
The man allegedly repeated a similar pattern at churches, where he reportedly presented himself as a Muslim converting to Christianity and received assistance from members of the congregation.
Man Allegedly Used Religious Conversions to Seek Donations
The reported scheme allegedly involved the man moving between different religious communities and changing his claimed religious identity depending on whether he was visiting a mosque or a church.
Reports circulating on social media claim that the alleged activities eventually attracted attention and led to his reported arrest in Lebanon.
However, LeadNaija News could not independently verify the man’s identity, the exact location of the alleged arrest, the circumstances surrounding it or whether Lebanese authorities have formally charged him.
The claims have nevertheless generated reactions online, with social-media users expressing surprise over the alleged method used to obtain assistance from worshippers.
Details of Reported Arrest Remain Unclear
There is currently limited independently verifiable information available about the case.
LeadNaija has therefore not established how much money or assistance the man allegedly received, how long the reported activity continued or what charges, if any, were brought against him.
