FG Awarded 13 Police Training Institutions Across Nigeria

The Federal Government has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions across the country. The work is scheduled to last three weeks and is intended to prepare the facilities for Nigeria Police Force training programmes.

The update was presented on Thursday in Abuja at the 160th meeting of the National Economic Council, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

At the same meeting, NEC endorsed the Revised National Social Protection Policy for 2026–2030, presented by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu. The council urged states to align their social protection policies, laws, budgets, and implementation plans with the national framework.

The policy is described as a framework for coordination, financing, implementation, monitoring, and accountability of social protection programmes. It proposes a National Social Protection Council chaired by the Vice President, with the ministers of Budget and Economic Planning, Labour and Employment, and Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction as vice chairs. The Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning would serve as secretariat, and six governors representing the six geopolitical zones would be members.

Shettima told the council that economic reforms should continue until they produce jobs, stronger purchasing power, business confidence, and improved living conditions.

He said government performance should be judged by follow-through, not announcements, and that macroeconomic indicators only matter if households feel the change.

He also said existing programmes should not be set aside because of new priorities, and that NEC’s role is to turn federal and state cooperation into measurable outcomes.
