Sporting Make €80m Stance Clear on Luis Suárez Amid Transfer Interest

Sporting CP have made their position clear regarding striker Luis Suárez, with the Portuguese club continuing to point interested clubs towards his €80 million release clause.

The Colombian forward remains an important player for Sporting, despite continued transfer interest from clubs looking to strengthen their attacking options.

According to reports, Sporting have been directing clubs interested in Suárez towards the €80 million clause since June rather than indicating a willingness to negotiate a lower transfer fee.

Fenerbahçe Interest Emerged in June

Suárez’s future became a major talking point in June when Hakan Safi, a businessman who was campaigning for the Fenerbahçe presidency, publicly presented the Sporting striker as a potential signing.

Safi reportedly claimed he had reached an agreement involving Suárez, but the proposed move did not materialise after he lost the Fenerbahçe presidential election.

Sporting, meanwhile, maintained that any club wanting to sign the striker would have to meet the €80 million release clause.

Sporting Want to Keep Suárez

Sporting have viewed Suárez as an important part of their squad following his impressive first season in Portugal.

The 28-year-old Colombian reportedly scored 38 goals in 53 appearances across competitions during his first campaign with the Portuguese club, making him one of Sporting’s key attacking players.

Despite interest from clubs including Newcastle, Sporting’s position has remained that the €80 million clause represents the route for any club seeking to take the striker away from Lisbon.

For now, Suárez remains a Sporting player, with the club showing little indication that it intends to negotiate his departure below the €80 million release clause.
