JUST-IN: FIFA Appeal Committee Rejects Belgian Challenge in Balogun Red Card Ruling

Kindly Share This Story:

The FIFA Appeal Committee has declared a request from the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) inadmissible in the case of United States international Folarin Balogun.

On 1 July 2026, during the FIFA World Cup 2026 match between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium, Balogun was sent off with a direct red card.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee subsequently decided to suspend the resulting match suspension for one year.

The RBFA lodged an appeal against that decision. However, the FIFA Appeal Committee ruled the request inadmissible on the grounds that the RBFA is not a party to the proceedings and therefore has no standing to appeal.

The original Disciplinary Committee ruling therefore stands: Balogun’s match suspension remains suspended for one year.
