Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has rejected claims that the human rights of National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and MP Fadiel Adams were violated during his arrest by the Political Killings Task Team in May.

Responding to parliamentary questions from NCC MP Sakeena Frenchman, Cachalia said SAPS was unaware of any human rights infringements during the execution of the arrest warrant.

Cachalia said no complaints or evidence of human rights violations were presented during Adams’ court appearances, adding that the courts would have been obliged to address such issues if they had been raised.

He also stated that the National Prosecuting Authority found a prima facie case against Adams before issuing a warrant, which SAPS executed in the Western Cape to secure his appearance in KwaZulu-Natal.

Adams was arrested on three counts of fraud and two counts of defeating the administration of justice. The charges relate to allegations that he conducted interviews with awaiting-trial inmates at Westville Prison in November 2024 and January 2025 after allegedly misrepresenting himself as acting on behalf of Parliament, resulting in authorities arranging official police escorts for his prison visits.

Following his arrest at the parliamentary villages in Cape Town, Adams was transported to Durban, appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court and was released on R10,000 bail.

His transportation drew criticism from EFF leader Julius Malema, while the NCC argued that the arrest contained procedural flaws and alleged that the manner in which it was carried out violated constitutional protections.
