Former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, says he could be arrested for speaking what he described as the truth about Nigeria’s current condition.

Speaking on Saturday at the third memorial conference for the late General Hassan Usman Katsina in Kaduna, Al-Mustapha said both Northern Nigeria and the country were facing serious challenges.

He accused northern leaders of abandoning the ideals of the region’s founding fathers.

According to him, “[From] every child on the street to the elites, [we] know that the state of Nigeria is in a sorry state. The state of the North is totally hopeless. Speaking the truth to the situation is meant for patriots.”

He also criticised the poor turnout of northern governors at the event, saying the conference theme, “From Sacrifice to Strategy,” should have attracted all of them.

“They don’t have the thinking, they don’t have the sacrifice, they don’t also have strategy for the country,” Al-Mustapha said.

He further accused political leaders of failing to understand the responsibilities of leadership and warned that the country’s system was broken.

Addressing a representative of President Bola Tinubu, he said, “The system is rotten; those who are in leadership positions don’t even understand what leadership is all about.”
