Two suspected drug dealers have been arrested in Mayville, Durban, following a months-long police surveillance operation that allegedly uncovered a drug-trafficking operation involving mandrax, heroin and cocaine worth more than R700,000.
The two suspects, aged 20 and 26, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation on Thursday night and are expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Organised Crime Unit, specialising in narcotics investigations, carried out the operation at a residence in the Puntus area of Mayville.
Police Place Suspects Under Surveillance
According to the information released about the operation, detectives began monitoring the suspects in June after receiving intelligence about their alleged involvement in the illicit drug trade in Overport and surrounding suburbs.
Police reportedly gathered information over several weeks before obtaining a search and seizure warrant.
The warrant was subsequently executed during Thursday night’s operation, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.
Drugs Worth Over R700,000 Recovered
During the search, police allegedly discovered quantities of mandrax, heroin and cocaine.
The drugs were estimated to have a street value of more than R700,000, according to the information surrounding the operation.
Officers also allegedly recovered an unlicensed firearm and 50 rounds of ammunition of different calibres.
The firearm, ammunition and suspected drugs were seized and will form part of the evidence in the case against the suspects.
Suspects to Appear in Durban Court
The two men are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges relating to alleged drug dealing, possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Their arrests follow an investigation into suspected drug trafficking activities in Overport, Mayville and surrounding areas.
The police operation forms part of wider efforts by law-enforcement authorities in KwaZulu-Natal to disrupt organised crime and the distribution of illegal drugs.
The suspects remain accused persons and will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations through the judicial process.
