The Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has reportedly directed some businesses operating in the area to suspend commercial activities and mobilise their workers to attend a reception for Governor Francis Nwifuru during his scheduled visit to the council.
The directive was contained in a letter dated August 10, 2026, addressed to the CEO/Manager of Arab Contractors Nigeria Limited, located in Ihietutu, Ishiagu.
According to the document, the company was instructed to shut down its business activities, including the crushing of chippings and other commercial operations, and mobilise its workers to join residents of Ivo Local Government Area in welcoming the governor at the Ivo LGA Secretariat, Isiaka.
Business Activities Ordered to Stop
The letter stated that the directive covered “all business activities” within and around the company’s premises.
It also instructed the company to ensure that its workers were present at the reception scheduled for the governor.
The document listed the venue as the Ivo LGA Secretariat, Isiaka, with the event scheduled for 10am.
₦1m Penalty Threat
The letter further warned that any defaulter would be required to pay a ₦1 million fine.
It also instructed the recipient to ensure “total compliance,” warning that failure to comply would be dealt with decisively.
The directive has generated concerns over whether businesses should be compelled to suspend their commercial activities and mobilise employees for an official reception.
Document Circulates Online
The letter has since circulated on social media, prompting reactions over the reported use of a financial penalty to enforce attendance at the governor’s visit.
However, LeadNaija News has not independently established the authenticity of the letter beyond the document currently circulating online, nor has it confirmed whether the threatened ₦1 million penalty was ultimately enforced.
There is also an apparent discrepancy in the document’s dating: while it is dated August 10, 2026, it refers to August 13 as both “Monday” in the subject line and “Thursday” in the body.
LeadNaija News has therefore contacted no party for comment at this stage, and the Ivo Local Government Area or Ebonyi State Government should clarify the circumstances surrounding the directive.
