The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected human parts merchants following months of intelligence gathering, surveillance and monitoring of their activities in the state.
The suspects were arrested at their various hideouts in Iseyin and Saki, Oyo State, by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit during an intelligence-led operation.
The suspects were identified as Adam Ibrahim, 42; Nasiru Kabiru, 22; Tijani Wasiu, 54; Abiola Nasiru, 45; Amusa Gbadamosi, 57; Raheem Taofeek, 46; Jimoh Muritala, 35; Suleiman Busari, 47; Ganiyu Nurudeen, 36; and Usman.
Police Recover Suspected Human Parts
According to the police, searches conducted at the suspects’ hideouts resulted in the recovery of several items believed to be human parts.
The exhibits reportedly include one suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of suspected human skull and assorted charms.
The police said the recovered items have been secured for forensic examination and further investigation.
Suspects Allegedly Confess
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects confessed to various levels of involvement in dealing in human parts for different ritual purposes.
According to the command, the suspects are assisting investigators in establishing the source, procurement and intended use of the recovered exhibits.
The police added that efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives for what he described as a painstaking intelligence-led operation.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist the police in preventing and detecting criminal activities across the state.
The investigation is ongoing, while the recovered exhibits are expected to undergo forensic examination.
