Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has led a delegation of state officials and Ibom Air management to the Airbus production facility in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada, for the pre-delivery inspection of the airline’s third Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
The inspection is part of the acceptance process ahead of the aircraft’s formal delivery and eventual arrival in Akwa Ibom State.
The delegation was received by Guillaume Chevasson, Head of the A220 Programme and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Canada.
Speaking on the development, Ibom Air Chief Executive Officer, George Uriesi, described the inspection as an important milestone in the airline’s fleet expansion programme.
He said the airline remained focused on investing in modern aircraft capable of improving operational efficiency, reliability, safety and passenger comfort as demand for air travel continues to increase.
Third Airbus A220-300
The aircraft is the third brand-new Airbus A220-300 in Ibom Air’s current delivery series.
According to reports, its addition is expected to increase the airline’s capacity and provide greater flexibility in scheduling and network expansion.
Airbus Canada CEO Guillaume Chevasson said the A220-300 offers operational flexibility, fuel efficiency and passenger comfort suited to domestic and regional operations.
The delivery will increase Ibom Air’s Airbus A220 fleet to three aircraft. The airline’s first two A220s are currently undergoing comprehensive checks and are expected to return to service by the end of September 2026.
Governor Eno said the investment is part of his administration’s efforts to position Ibom Air as a strategic asset for Akwa Ibom, with improved air connectivity expected to support tourism, trade and investment in the state.
Once the delivery process is completed, the aircraft will be ferried to Nigeria and formally received into the Ibom Air fleet in Akwa Ibom State before commencing commercial operations.
Ibom Air, which is wholly owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, began operations in 2019 and expanded into international services in June 2026 with scheduled flights from Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.
