After 17 Years , Okin Biscuits Rolls Again in Nigeria

After 17 years of silence, Okin Biscuits has finally remembered what it feels like to make biscuits again, and this time the comeback began with a production line roaring back to life at its factory in Offa.

The once familiar Nigerian brand had been forced into a long shutdown after vandals reportedly stripped the line of cables, frequency drives, contactors, motors and other vital electronic components, leaving a factory that once produced a household favourite practically frozen in time.

The company says Tuesday’s production was only a technical trial and not yet the grand return of the Okin biscuit Nigerians remember, because the factory still has plenty of testing, calibration and rehabilitation to complete.

There was, however, another reason for celebration as Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company connected the factory to a 33KVA Band A electricity supply on the same day, giving the revival project another major boost.

The company says the immediate goal was simply to prove that a production line that had remained silent for 17 years could still be brought back to life, and that test has now been passed.

The real challenge is still ahead because Okin must recover the familiar taste and quality that made the brand popular before its long disappearance, so Nigerians may have to exercise a little patience before seeing it properly return to store shelves.

After 17 years, though, even the sound of biscuits rolling off that line feels like somebody finally remembered where they kept a piece of Nigerian childhood.
