The Danish government is considering a nationwide ban on the Islamic call to prayer, with Immigration Minister Morten Bødskov stating that the practice “has no place in Denmark.”
According to reports, the government has launched an investigation into whether mosque broadcasts of the Adhan can be prohibited across the country.
The move marks the third attempt by Denmark’s ruling Social Democratic Party to pursue such a ban after similar efforts in 2020 and 2025.
Officials say the review will examine the balance between religious freedom and residents’ rights regarding noise and the use of public spaces. While Denmark’s constitution protects freedom of worship, certain restrictions are permitted under specific circumstances.
The proposal comes amid Denmark’s broader immigration and integration policies under Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. However, reports indicate that local municipalities have received very few complaints about prayer calls, raising questions about the motivation behind the proposed measure.
The debate is expected to spark further discussion about religious rights, immigration, and the visibility of Muslim communities in Denmark.
