Police Arrest Three Suspects Linked To Murder Of Retired Broadcaster, Security Guard

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of retired OGTV broadcaster, Ms Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, at her residence in Abeokuta.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, told journalists at the Command headquarters in Abeokuta that intensive intelligence gathering, technical tracking and forensic investigations, led to the arrest of the alleged masterminds of the crime.

According to the CP, the principal suspect, identified as 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, while two others – Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, a bricklayer, were subsequently apprehended during follow-up operations.

CP Ojajuni explained that a Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased which was stolen after the attack, was recovered through technical tracking.

He added that a handwritten note recovered from the crime scene was subjected to forensic examination, providing crucial leads that assisted investigators in identifying the suspects.

The Police Commissioner revealed that the principal suspect confessed to planning the attack and recruiting the other two suspects.

According to investigators, the suspect claimed he carried out the crime over grievances arising from his previous employment as a security guard in Madam Oyesiku’s residence and intended to “teach her a lesson.”

Police investigations further revealed that the suspects allegedly overpowered the security guard before gaining access to the residence where they attacked and killed Madam Oyesiku.

The security guard was also murdered during the operation.

CP Ojajuni said detectives recovered several exhibits linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen.

While assuring residents that justice would be served, the Commissioner of Police emphasized that investigations remain ongoing to consolidate evidence and ensure the diligent prosecution of all persons connected to the double murder.
